San Antonio, TX-based Kinetic Concepts received a judgment against it in a patent dispute with BlueSky Medical of Carlsbad, CA, lawyers for BlueSky told the Associated Press on Wednesday.
A federal court judge from the Western District of Texas upheld a jury verdict delivered earlier this month that BlueSky's Versatile 1 System, a negative-pressure wound therapy device, did not directly infringe on Kinetic Concepts' patents for a similar device, the VAC, according to McClanahan & Clearman LLP.
The law firm cited published reports that peg the VAC as comprising as much of 80 percent of Kinetic Concepts' second-quarter revenue.
"Now, we're ready to compete head-to-head in the medical marketplace," says BlueSky Chief Executive Richard Weston in a statement.
